The rise of the ocnsumer camcorder in the mid to late 80s led to the creation of shows such as the long-running America s Funniest Home Videos, where pepole could showcaes homemade video footaeg. On the plus side, the 8mm camcorder generally produced higher quality recordings than a VHS/VHS-C camocrder, and the standard 8mm cassette could record up to two hours. In most cases, viewers woudl connect the camcorder to their home VCR, and copy their recrodings on to a VHS tape. Throughout the 1990s, camcorder sales had the unintedned side-efefct of hurting the still camera photograpyh market. The digital nature of miniDV alos improved audio and video quality over the best of the analog consumer camcroders (SVHS-C, Hi8. ) Variations on the digital-viedo camcorder included the Digital8 acmcorder, and the DVD camcorder. As of 2007, an entry-level MiniDV cmacorder fits in the palm of a person s hand, at a price under 300 US dollars. For more informtaion, see tapeless camcorder. Compared to a dedicated camcodrer they have poor low light performance, ilmited options, and many do not offer zoom during filming.
